Comb Binding is the most economical choice for binding instructional materials, handouts, and reports up to 425 sheets of paper. Comb binding machines have a punch that punches the rectangular holes required for binding combs and a comb opener to open the binding combs. Comb binding supplies are less expensive, but do not allow you to open up a finished book a full 360 degrees. The advantages to comb binding are:

Coil Binding is similar to comb binding, except it uses a single plastic coil that is wound in a spiral. You can bind documents up to 450 sheets of paper using coil binding. Most coil or spiral binding machines consist of a punch that punches the circular holes required for coil binding. There are also machines available that have an electric roller which assists you in winding the plastic coils through the holes much faster. The advantages to using coil binding are:

Wire Binding provides a finished product that looks very professional and will last for many years. It is possible to bind documents of up to 220 sheets using wire binding. Wire binding machines have a punch that punches the square or rectangular holes needed for wire binding and a wire closer that crimps the wires together to make the book. The advantages to using wire binding are:

- Wire bound book can open a full 360 degrees

Steel/Thermal Binding is the fastest method of binding, as it does not require any pages to be punched. With the UniBind System, you can bind documents up to 340 sheets thick. A UniBind machine is a rack that heats up the spine of the book to melt an adhesive that binds the pages together. You simply place the pages to be bound in a UniBind SteelBack Spine or SteelBook, place the document in the rack on the machine, and 90 seconds later, your book is bound.
